Imagine being uprooted from your home you worked so hard to establish, and everything you need to survive on a day-to-day basis has now become inaccessible. No clothes, no food, no water, not even a roof over your head. Suffering from Domestic/Sexual Violence is something nobody can prepare for, especially when it ends up with you losing your home and the items you need to survive. At the Crisis Center of Central New Hampshire, we offer Emergency Shelter Services for those who have been displaced due to violence.
We offer space for 7 different families, where each family will be given one private, lockable bedroom to share. We also provide community living spaces like a living room, kitchen, and laundry room that all house guests have access to. After a family/individual moves into the shelter they are given the space that they need to find stable ground and feel safe.
CCCNH’s Shelter Coordinator will then jump into case management style work with the survivor – helping them apply to housing, get financial assistance, resume building/job hunting, assist with counseling services, making referrals to partnering agencies that assist individuals/families in need, etc. Case management plans are individualized to each guest/family and are designed to meet the survivor where they are at as well as to be the most trauma informed as possible.
Moving into our emergency shelter is life-changing and not an easy situation to be put into. Most individuals and families come into the shelter with nothing. Having a safe place to call home, where you can feel independent and free, is a right every individual should be given. Having Emergency Shelter Programs for survivors of domestic/sexual violence saves lives and helps them to regain control of their futures. CCCNH’s emergency shelter is always full. If rooms become available, they are usually taken in less than 24 hours. Last year, CCCNH provided 3,334 bed nights to survivors through our emergency shelter program.
