April marks a poignant time for reflection and action as we observe Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). It’s a time to raise our voices, amplify survivor stories, and reaffirm our commitment to ending sexual violence in all its forms.

SAAM has roots dating back to the 1970s when activists started organizing events to shed light on the prevalence of sexual violence and advocate for survivors’ rights. Over the years, SAAM has evolved into a global movement, mobilizing communities to address the systemic issues underlying sexual assault and promote prevention strategies.

In the spirit of creativity and community engagement, CCCNH launched our Community Connections campaign again this year and it’s brewing up awareness one cup at a time! Through our Coffee Sleeve and Coaster Campaign, local cafes, bars and restaurants served up more than just your favorite brew – they served up a specialized coffee sleeve and coasters that sparked conversations about consent, boundaries, and supporting survivors. We hope when you reached for your morning pick-me-up or had a drink at your favorite establishment, you saw our special sleeves and coasters!

CCCNH also hosted the Resilience Breakfast, a gathering that brought together survivors, supporters, and community partners. The highlight of the event was Emma Mannion’s powerful keynote address. As a survivor and activist, Mannion shared her journey of healing and activism, inspiring everyone who attended.

Tonight, CCCNH is hosting Take Back the Night. This march and rally provide a platform for survivors to reclaim their voices and demand an end to sexual violence. It’s a powerful demonstration of community solidarity and a testament to our collective resolve to create safer, more inclusive spaces for all.

As we navigate the complexities of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, let’s remember that our actions, no matter how small, can have a profound impact. Whether it’s engaging in conversations, supporting survivor-centered initiatives, or attending community events, let’s stand together in solidarity and work towards a future free from sexual violence. Together, we can make a difference and create safer communities.
