When I tell people what I do for work there is typically one follow-up question, “What do you do there?” It is met with a pause, as I try to figure out where to start. What do we do at the Crisis Center of Central New Hampshire? It might be easiest to tell you what we do not do: We don’t turn people away without some sort of help. Even when we get calls that are not in our catchment area, we always have a referral to agency that may be a better fit! When it comes to serving survivors of domestic violence, sexual abuse, human trafficking, and stalking, we do a lot. We have trauma-informed, client-centered, and healing-focused advocates and programs. Let’s look at some of these!!

Court Advocacy

CCCNH helps survivors file in the family court system at Franklin, Concord and Hooksett, NH district courts. Survivors may need ex-partes, parenting plans, restraining orders, modification of parenting plans and/or divorces. We can help survivors file for all these. CCCNH advocates are unable to provide legal advice, but we can provide connections to 603 Legal Aid if the survivor needs help from an attorney. Advocates are also able to attend court hearing with survivors as an extra support.

Housing

CCCNH supports survivors with both emergency shelter and longer term housing needs. Our housing advocate works with survivors to either stay in their living space or find and obtain safe, sustainable housing. Survivors face unique barriers around housing. A lot of the time they have either no credit or poor credit due to financial abuse. They may have also had to deal with evictions. The housing advocate works hand and hand survivors and landlords to help them find and maintain housing.

Shelter

Our shelter advocate helps survivors in the shelter through the healing process. Oftentimes, survivors and their children who are in shelter have many needs. Certainly, a large need is housing, but other needs may include help with finding employment, obtaining state benefits, and securing childcare. Our shelter advocate is there for all of these needs, working with shelter guests to help them as they navigate their next steps.

Education

A dynamic duo of a team! Two wonderful advocates make up our Youth and Outreach team. They give presentations in the community, have office hours at local schools and colleges and attend the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) interviews. They work to build community connections through education of CCCNH services and about domestic and sexual violence.

Support Group & Mental Health

CCCNH has a Survivor Support Group each Wednesday night for survivors. Advocates are also able to research therapists for clients who are interested in private psychology resources. All individuals in support group can access and utilize the other CCCNH programs.

Teamwork

Teamwork! We work as a team to help survivors. All of the staff support and provide advocacy to survivors. If it is out of the scope of work we can help with, we make referrals to other partner agencies including mental health services, legal resources, financial resources, material needs, social services and more. When a local hospital calls for an advocate to support a survivor, we are all able to take these calls and attend. CCCNH’s services are here to help survivors, their familis and their friends. We are also here to help our community. Our services are available free of charge, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
